Hey everyone, here are the minutes for our meeting on 9/6
Approval of Secretary’s Minutes from last week
Treasurer’s Report
account- $693.06
We are also looking to change banks from WSFS to either Citizens Bank or Delaware National, both of which have no maintenance fees for checking account, something we had trouble with in the past.
Dues
Club dues are due to the treasurer on Sept. 27. New members pay $15 and old members pay $10.
Newark Community Day
Newark Community day is Sunday, September 17. It is a community street fair event. We use this event to raise funds for a charity to be decided on later. Last year we gave to Louisiana Humane Society. We need a table and chairs, so if anyone has a table and some chairs, please email me at jenp@udel.edu.
We are planning on having a fishbowl toss. Winners would get a coupon redeemable for a goldfish at a local pet store. Price has yet to be decided, but some possible numbers would be $.50 for a toss and $1.50 for five tosses. We signed up for shifts during the meeting. They are as follows:
9:30-11:30
11:30-1:30
1:30-3:30
3:30-5:30
Erin McDowell
Michelle Pasawicz
Lisa Brody
Matt Mullin
Amanda Kilby
Erin Stough
Allison Mecaughey
Chelsea Berdolt
Lorna Dougherty
Genia Pultorak
Haley Tammany
Danielle Smarsh
Dawn Lenihan
Tanya Mejia
Janine Poreda
Jen Puttress
Shannon Thomas
Kendra Daniels
Stacy Green
Jessica Donnelly
Nicole Hughes
Kaitlyn Lutz
Allison Goodman
If you would like to help out for a shift, please email me. We would like more people at our middle shifts, especially members who have done community days before. Also, please come with ideas for a charity for our next meeting.
Cowtown Rodeo
Cowtown is a rodeo held in south Jersey. It was decided we would be going on September 23. There is a fee to get in, but if there are more than 20 people going, we can get a group discount. If you are interested, please email me with you name and if you can drive a car, and if so, how many people. Also email me if you signed up, but have since decided you can’t come.
Baltimore Zoo
We are trying to get a trip to the Baltimore Zoo organized. We are trying to in touch with Linda Pill, a former student. They no longer do behind the scenes tours, but there are besides the scene tours done by docents. If we decide to go by ourselves, the fee would be $11.50 if we have a group of 20 or more, or $15 if there are less than 20 people. The trip has been tentatively scheduled for mid October.
Ag Carnival
Ag Carnival is a competition sponsored by AgCC where all ag organizations compete against each other in competitions such as tug-of-war, pie eating, and pumpkin chucking. It is being held on Saturday, October 7 this year. Each group participating is in charge of sponsoring an event. Animal Science Club traditionally sponsors both a physical event, and a charity auction to help AgrAbility. AgrAbility is an organization that helps disabled farmers in the Delmarva area. Since the auction is our event, we need to publicize well in the community, and decide what we want to auction. Last year, our auction item also was part of our event, peddle tractors. Please bring ideas for an event or auction item to our next meeting.
Committees
At the end of the meeting we voted on committee chairs and then broke into committee meetings. All active members must be on a committee.
Fundraising Committee
The fundraising committee is chaired by our treasurer, Danielle Smarsh. There most important thing right now is deciding on who to donate to from our Community Day donations. They are also thinking about getting local farmers to bring/donate pumpkins at our Halloween event for children to paint. They were also thinking about doing clean up at places like Dovar Downs and after football games to get paid for our time.
Pre-Vet Committee
The pre-vet committee is being co-chaired by Vincent Baldanza and Tom Hart. Right now, they are thinking of possible speakers, such as a bird/wildlife vet, and equine vet, or a possible trip to Camden Aquarium.
Social Committee
The social committee is being co-chaired by Chelsea Berdolt and Matt Mullin. Right now, the social chairs are helping to organize the trip to Cowtown, and a possible social event at Kilby Cream ice cream parlor with a tour around the dairy farm. They are also thinking of ice breakers to do at the beginning of meetings so everyone gets to know the new members.
Livestock Committee
The livestock committee is being chaired by Lisa Brody. They are thinking about a possible speaker from Hatfield.
Service Committee
The service committee is being chaired by Erin Stough. The service committee is planning service activities at Delaware Humane and possibly having a blanket and food drive for dogs and cats. They are also thinking about going to schools to talk about the animal science major to those who may not know too much about it.

For the first meeting we had a social event to introduce our new members to each other and to our old members. We made, and ate delightfully sweet ice cream.
Information for interested students who could not attend this meeting:
I apologize for the late email with the information, but there was some miscommunication with Event Services. For those of you who could not attend, do not worry. In fact, we really hope that you attend our next meeting. For those that can not attend due to class/lab conflict do not worry either. We hold many weekend events that you are encouraged to participate in, and you can always start attending business meetings in future semesters. Don’t let your class conflicts discourage you from being a part of the club.
Next meeting:
For now, the meeting next week will be in the same place at the same time. However, there will be another email next week confirming the location, as the room we were in was less than optimal, we’re going to try to fix that. For now, we will be meeting in 103 Sharp Lab at 5:30. For those who don’t know where Sharp Lab is, it is the building next to Gore Hall on E. Delaware.
Next meeting we will be deciding on committee chairs. Please consider being a chairperson.
Social Committee: Committee duties include planning social events which promote fellowship among members.
Fundraising Committee: Committee duties are to design and run fundraising activities for the club. The Treasurer shall serve as Chair of this committee.

Community Service Committee: this committee is responsible for planning all community service events.
Please keep in mind that all active members must serve on a committee, so if you don’t want to be a chair, please think about which one you would like to help out with.
We have a lot of exciting events planned for this semester. See you next week.

Hey Animal Science Club!
We had our last business meeting of the semester on 5/3. Here are the minutes from the meeting:
Treasurer's Report
Account: $553.78
*We made $170 from donations and $119 from the Plant Sale on Ag Day!!*
Ag Day Report
Although Ag Day was a success overall, and we hope everyone had a great time.. there's always room for improvement. One of the problems we had was with kids feeding the animals with the rations they had mixed. Also, some of us felt that we might have stretched ourselves a bit thin and had too many things going on (facepainting, plant sale, mixing feed, the animals, etc.). Ideas for next Ag day include: have one cohesive theme, condense our activities, do demonstrations throughout the day (the sheep shearing was a hit!), less animal pens?, educate club members about the animals before Ag Day, and have a better layout under the tent.
Also.. don't forget to give Jenna your late t-shirt payments of $5!
Banquet
The Banquet is this coming Wednesday, 5/11 at 5:30pm at Timothy's. We will be meeting in the Russell lot at 5pm to carpool over. If you haven't already paid Jenna, remember to give her your money for Banquet! ($10 for active club members and $19 for non-active/non members.)
Advisor Appreciation nominations
AgCC is collecting nominations for the best advisor of the year. This can be an advisor from a club, academic advisor, lab, etc. A 1-page typed nomination is due by May 9th to the AgCC mailbox in 104 TNS, or you can email it to Stacy at sgreen@udel.edu. There will be a free luncheon on Reading Day (May 18th) from 12-2 in the Commons to recognize the winner. Even if your advisor doesn't win.. he/she will still get a note in recognition for being nominated.. so send in those nominations!
Elections
Here are our new officers for next year:
President: Jenna Scibilia
Vice President: Kaitlyn Lutz
Treasurer: Danielle Smarsh
Secretary: Jen Puttress
Historians: Stacy Green and Michelle Lapera
Congratulations, guys! Also, as part of their election speeches, everyone gave some fundraising ideas for next year.. these include: ping pong-ball toss for a goldfish (either an actual fish, or a coupon for one), donate time to clean-up an event for money (Dover Downs, the Bob for Concerts?), sell baked goods in front of Walmart (they'll double the profits), sell pizza or lollipops, try and sell general ANSC t-shirts, spaghetti dinner, or sponsor a movie night (or other event) and sell popcorn, candy, etc.
Miscellaneous
-Sally mentioned the ANSC Club in the AgrAbility newsletter!
-Please send in your club pictures to Jen at jenp@udel.edu
-Meeting time for next semester: 5:30pm Wednesdays (keep this in mind when doing your schedules)
Alright. Thus concludes my last minutes to the ANSC Club as Secretary. It's been great fun, and I hope that everyone has enjoyed reading them these past two years. >tear< I look forward to seeing you all at the Banquet this Wednesday for one last hoorah!

Hello Animal Science Club!
Wednesday's meeting started off with a guest speaker, Dr. Culp, who is a UD ANSC Club Alumnus and Veterinarian in the Army Corps. Hopefully everyone enjoyed his presentation and found it informative! For those of you pursuing veterinary school, keep in mind the scholarship and funding opportunities provided by the Veterinary Army Corps! We also had two representatives from Huntingdon Life Sciences tell us about position and internship availabilities (www.huntingdon.com). Following our guest speakers, there was a short business meeting.
Treasurer's Report
Account: $1,029.30
Plant Sale
Plant Sale Forms were handed out at the meeting. Pick-up for the plants will be on May 11th.
Ag Day
Ag Day is next Saturday!! A sign-up sheet for shifts (set-up, general Ag Day, and clean-up) was sent around. Please email Carolyn at cschnek@udel.edu to sign-up for a shift if you weren't at the meeting. Also, because the Ag Day t-shirts were a little more expensive than we had planned, we're asking that members pay $5 for a shirt to help cover costs. You can pay for your shirt either at next meeting or at Ag Day.
Tour of Dairy
A few of our members helped give a tour of our dairy to two disabled women before the meeting. Despite a rocky start (flat tire), all went well, and the women were very appreciative. Nice job, guys!
Officer Elections
We will have nominations for next year's officers at the next meeting. So start thinking about positions that you would be interested in!
Banquet
Our Banquet will be on May 10th at Timothy's. We will send around a sign-up sheet at the next meeting. Dress for the Banquet is "nice"--aka, no jeans or sneakers. You don't have to get super fancy, but this is our chance to get dressed up a bit.. so have fun with it. Also, please send in your award nominations to one of the officers (not to someone you're nominating, though)!!!
Miscellaneous
Concerning the zoo trip for next semester, it looks like it's going to be too expensive to have a behind-the-scenes tour at the Philadelphia Zoo, so we're going to look into perhaps having Linda Pill show us around the Baltimore Zoo again. Also, we got a thank-you card from the AgrAbility speaker. She was very appreciative of all the money we raised for AgrAbility, and she will keep us posted on how our donation will be spent.
That's it for this week's minutes. See you all at next week's meeting on 5/26 at 5:30pm in MEM 111.

Following our guest speakers, there was a short business meeting.

Hey Animal Science Club!
A big thanks to our guest speaker from Perdue! Following our speaker's presentation, there was a short business meeting. Here are the minutes from this past Wednesday's meeting:
Treasurer's Report
Account: $1,029.30
Next Week
Before next week's meeting on 4/19, a few of our members will be giving a tour of the dairy to a disabled woman. If you are part of this group, please meet at 4pm at the dairy. Danielle will send out a reminder email next week.
Also, we will be having a guest speaker at next week's meeting: Dr. Culp from the Army Corps. We hope that you will come out and listen to what's sure to be an interesting presentation from Dr. Culp!
Ag Day
This year at Ag Day we're not going to have any of our conventional crafts. Instead, we will let the kids mix feed to form rations for typical ruminants or nonruminants. There will be posters explaining the nutritional requirements for ruminants (sheep) and nonruminants (chickens), and the kids will be able to bring home their mixed feed samples. In addition, we will have animals, plant sale forms, and AgrAbility posters.
We discussed what we should do about Ag Day shirts--if we should buy extras and sell them. As per vote of the club, we decided that the club will pay for the Tshirts and that we will buy about 15 extra shirts (5 small, 5 medium, and 5 large).
Plant Sale Forms
We are still waiting to hear back from Dr. Emara concerning the varieties of plants we will be selling.
High School Quiz Bowl Competition
There was a committee meeting about the High School Quiz Bowl, and Jenna reported on the committee's decisions. The committee had decided to appease the department by limiting the Quiz Bowl Competition to 4H high school kids, who may be interested in coming to UD, so that we could double our competition as a recruitment tool. However, Dan Severson brought up some concerns about our target audience and proposed "recruitment tool" plans. So, the committee will discuss this further and report back to us on a later date. They will be meeting with Dr. Gelb soon to discuss this and other issues.
AgCC Officers Needed
AgCC, which is composed of representatives from the different clubs in the Ag College, is looking for new officers for next year. If you are interested in nominating yourself, please contact Amanda at akilby@udel.edu for an application form. Also, mark your calendars for the Advisor Appreciation lunch on May 18th from 12-2 in the Commons.
Banquet
The ANSC club banquet will be held on May 10 at Timothy's. Please send any award nominations to Amanda, Jess, or Carolyn. **Don't send your nomination to the person you're nominating**

Hello Animal Science Club!
I hope everyone is having a great Spring Break! Here are the minutes from last week's meeting:
Guest Speaker from AgrAbility
Sally Van Schaik came to talk to us about AgrAbility and how the organization has helped disabled farmers succeed in agriculture. Sometimes they need groups to help in building stairs, etc., so she will be in contact with us in the event that they could use our assistance with such a project. Also, she asked that if anyone has questions or ideas, or if you'd like to attend their Advisory Committee meeting, then you should contact her at svanschaik@gt.esdel.org or 877-204-FARM (3276). Our club has helped fund some of their projects, and Sally wanted to express her thanks for our generous donations. Before she left, we presented her with a check for AgrAbility in the amount of $595, which we raised during the auction for Ag Carnival.

High School Judging/Quiz Bowl Competition
A meeting was scheduled (for outside of club business meetings) to discuss this idea further. If you are still interested in being a member of this committee, please email Jenna at jscib@udel.edu.
Service Activity
Steve Cook's didn't happen last Sunday, because the people who went got lost. In order to prevent this confusion for future trips to Steve Cook's farm, we talked about possibly posting directions to Steve's on our website. Unfortunately, the rest of our semester is rather busy, and Steve is busy throughout April, so we will not be able to reschedule Steve Cook's for this semester. Instead, as another service activity, we will look into helping out at the Delaware Humane Association sometime in April.
Animal Technician/Intern Needed
Melissa Goodson, a 2005 Animal Science UD Alumnus, wanted to spread the word that her company, Huntingdon Life Sciences, is expanding their toxicology department and is looking for technicians. This is a great opportunity for graduating Seniors looking for jobs in the field, or for an undergraduate who would like an internship for the Summer. Huntingdon Life Sciences, situated in central New Jersey, is one of the world's largest Contract Research Organizations. For more information, you can either get in contact with Melissa (862-432-6688) or you can check out the HLS website at http://www.huntingdon.com/.
Alright. That concludes the minutes from last week's meeting. Enjoy the rest of your Spring Break... and we look forward to seeing you at our next meeting on Wednesday, 4/5 at 5:30pm in MEM 111.

Hello Animal Science Club!
I hope everyone had a lovely Saint Patrick's Day! Here are the minutes from last week's meeting:
Treasurer's Report
Account: $1,118.79
Committee Reports
Service: Helping out at Steve Cook's is today, Sunday. A few members from the club will give a dairy tour for the disabled woman at around 4pm on Wednesday, April 19th (email dsmarsh@udel.edu if interested in helping!). Also, we will be having our AgrAbility Speaker, Sally, come talk to the club on Wednesday, March 22nd.
Pre-Vet: Dr. Pope was contacted and is really interested in talking to the club. He will be our Pre-Vet guest speaker on Wednesday, April 19th.
Livestock: We will have a guest speaker form Purdue on Wednesday, April 12th. Also, if you have any ideas concerning future Livestock committee-run activities, please email Kaitlyn at kaitlyn@udel.edu. A few suggestions included a behind-the-scenes tour at the Philadelphia Zoo or a visit to an Amish Farm.
Fundraising: Our Fundraising Committee Chair was not at the meeting, so we will discuss Plant Sale Forms and a date/location for the Car Wash at the next meeting.
Social: Our Banquet will be Timothy's on Wednesday, May 10th. Here are our choices for side dishes, meat and dessert. Please e-mail Robert at rcgood@udel.edu with your votes on the three items before Wednesday's meeting!

*Reminder to Committee Chairs: Please fill out event reports online on the Club's webpage!
Ag Day
We discussed some potential crafts for Ag Day, including picture frames, pig noses, duck or elephant puppets, or general paperbag puppets. We will finalize our Craft options at a future meeting. Also, we brainstormed some ideas for our educational posters, such as posters with farm animal information or interactive posters with velcro animals. We decided that the club will break-up into committees after Spring Break to further discuss/outline poster ideas. Instead of handmaking our posters this year, we thought we'd take it one step further and get them printed out (possibly laminated?). Dr. Griffiths also suggested that we include a "Who are you, and where are you now?" poster with pictures of Alumni and post-it-notes, so that Alumni can fill in their information. Lastly, concerning Ag Day t-shirts, Carolyn will get them printed at Taylor's Inc. If you are interested in getting an Animal Science Club Ag Day T-shirt, please contact Carolyn at cschnek@udel.edu.
High School Judging/Quiz Bowl Competition
Dr. Griffith's reported back on the Department's discussion of our High School Judging/Quiz Bowl Competition idea. The Department had a few primary concerns about our competition. First of all, they feel that we need to redefine our audience. We had originally intended our competition to be open to Delaware FFA and 4H clubs and Delaware High School students, with the hopes that this competition would get these students interested in possibly pursuing our program at UD. However, most Ag High School students aren't college-bound. So, we would need to redefine our population of interest to either Delaware Ag clubs or Delaware High School students, because these two populations are very different, and it would be hard to accommodate them both. Next, there is little to no support among the faculty to hold the livestock judging aspect of our competition. There are many reasons against livestock judging, namely, our farm doesn't have good classes of animals to judge from. Although one of our attempts with this competition is to "get the College of Ag back to 'Ag'," we have to keep in mind what is contemporary in the field. And the fact is, the field is moving away from livestock judging and focusing more on form and function. So we need to rethink a lot of things concerning our goals for this competition. If we leave out judging, should we have more of an academic triathlon? Also, perhaps we should include the Food Science Club? These are just a few of the concerns we need to address before we can move forward.
We would like to establish a committee that will be responsible for organizing this competition. If you are interested in being a member of the committee, please email Jenna at jscib@udel.edu.
Social Activity
Thanks to Robert, we had an Animal Science-related game of Jeopardy. Good game, everyone!
Alright. That concludes the minutes from last week's meeting. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting on Wednesday, 3/22. at 5:30pm in MEM 111. Remember that we will have our AgrAbility speaker at Wednesday's meeting!

Ag Day
We discussed some potential crafts for Ag Day, including picture frames, pig noses, duck or elephant puppets, or general paperbag puppets.

Hello ANSC Club!
Hopefully everyone had a wonderful weekend. Here are the minutes from last week's meeting:
Treasurer's Report
Account: $1,074.30
Committee Reports
Service: Unfortunately, Steve Cook cannot accommodate us for the April 22nd date...however, he really needs help on March 18th or 19th. So if enough people could/can want to go, we could go on the 19th (next Sunday). Anyone who is interested should please email Danielle (dsmarsh@udel.edu) asap so she can be in touch with Steve! A few members from the club will give a dairy tour for the disabled woman at around 4pm on Wednesday, April 19th (email dsmarsh@udel.edu if interested in helping!). Also, we will be having our AgrAbility Speaker come talk to the club on Wednesday, March 22nd.
Pre-Vet: Concerning a Pre-Vet speaker for March 22nd, a few different people have been emailed, including a researcher on campus and an Army Corp. Vet. More information about our speaker next meeting.
Livestock: We will have a guest speaker form Purdue on Wednesday, April 12th.
Fundraising: The club voted on whether or not to hold a Car Wash or a Dog Wash or both. We decided to just concentrate on a Car Wash, and the location/date of the Car Wash will be discussed next meeting.
Social: We voted and decided that the location of our Banquet will be Timothy's, and it will be held on Wednesday, May 10th (clear your calendars!). Robert will look up a tentative menu and the club will be given options to choose from at a future date. Also, the club will discuss prices/person when it gets closer to the Banquet. *Reminder to Committee Chairs: Please fill out event reports online on the Club's webpage!
Regionals
Amanda took our thank-you card and cakes to the ANSC office on Monday. Also, notice that our accomplishments at NESA made it into Talk of Townsend... once again, congratulations to everyone who participated! Check out our website for photos from Regionals. http://copland.udel.edu/stu-org/ansci/
Ag Day T-shirt Vote
We voted on a club t-shirt design for Ag Day at the meeting. The club decided on Carolyn's idea with the "Duck, Duck, Blue Hen" theme. Please contact Carolyn if you would be interested in a shirt (cschnek@udel.edu).
Ag Day
As in previous years, the club will have a petting zoo, face painting, educational displays, and arts & crafts at Ag Day. Please start thinking of craft ideas, and we will vote on them at this week's meeting. Also, start thinking of ideas for our educational displays. (We will work on our posters/displays at the few meetings right before Ag Day.) Not only will our club need lots of help from members on Ag Day, but the Ag Day Class is also asking for volunteers. Please contact Sarah Moore at smoo@udel.edu if you are interested in volunteering. Also, consider submitting t-shirt ideas to the t-shirt design competition held by the Ag Day Class. Lastly, the club voted to donate money to Ag Day so that we will get our name put on the official Ag Day shirts.
High School Judging/Quiz Bowl Competition
Amanda and Jenna met with Dr. Gelb, the ANSC department chair, to discuss the practicality of our idea to hold an ANSC competition for Delaware High School students. They told him what we plan on doing and how it will benefit the ANSC Club and the Ag College. Dr. Gelb was enthusiastic about the idea, but he will have to discuss it with other faculty members at the next Department meeting. Dr. Gelb recommended that we keep it small-scale (just Delaware FFA clubs and High School students), and that we start looking into budgeting and donations. Also, we will need to set up a committee that will be responsible for planning this event, which we anticipate will be held in the Fall. Please start thinking about if you'd like to be a part/head of this committee.
Alright. That concludes the minutes from last week's meeting. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting on Wednesday the 15th at 5:30pm in MEM 111.

Committee Reports
Service: We are scheduled to help out on Steve Cook's Farm on April 19th. Danielle will be contacting Barbara Graham at the Mary Campbell center to set up a dairy tour for the disabled woman. Also, we will be having our AgrAbility Speaker come talk to the club on Wednesday, March 22nd. In order to publicize this event so that others interested in AgrAbility may come listen to our speaker, we will put an advertisement in Talk of Townsend and put in a plug at AgCC.
Pre-Vet: More information on Pre-Vet speakers at future meetings.
Livestock: Concerning guest speakers, we are waiting to hear back from the Purdue representative. We will provide further details on Livestock speakers/trips at future meetings.
Fundraising: We will start advertising for our Plant Sale around April 1st. As far as other fundraising ideas, we hope to have another Car Wash when it gets warmer, and we also talked about potentially doing a Dog Wash. The club has had problems with Dog Washes in the past, so we need to discuss this idea further. If you have any other fundraising ideas, please contact Jenna at jscib@udel.edu.
Social: We're still discussing the location for our Banquet. Possible places include The Tracks or Timothy's. The Social committee will look into places/prices and have more information at next meeting.

Regionals Report
Everyone who went to Regionals (NESA) this past weekend at UMass had an excellent time. And not only did we all have lots of fun, but we also did rather well for ourselves. The events started early Saturday morning with livestock judging, where we were all surprised to see that the "special class" was not alpaca (which we had studied how to judge the night before!) but tobacco leaves. (Apparently the Amherst area is big on Tobacco.) Then after judging livestock in the freezing cold, we braved our way through the snow to UMass' campus for the Quiz Bowl competitions and Research presentations. For the Quiz Bowl, one of our teams came in 2nd place, and they actually got to play the final round in front of everyone in a huge auditorium! Some other highlights were Erin McDowell for placing 6th in the Paper Presentations (thank you to Danielle Smarsh for donating your PowerPoint presentation!), Carolyn Schnek for winning 1st place in the Individual Research competition, and congratulations to all of our team members for helping Delaware place 4th for the overall competition!! Everyone did an awesome job! And to thank Dr. Gelb and the ANSC Department for covering our hotel costs at Regionals, a Thank You card was sent around at the meeting, and we plan on leaving a cake in the ANSC department office for the secretaries and faculty. We're all very proud of our club's success, and here's to future wins at NESA!
Ag Day
We're still discussing Ag Day T-shirt ideas. Carolyn came up with an idea of playing on "Duck, duck, goose," but instead of a goose, using a blue hen. Her idea is included at the end of the minutes. Please draw up any other T-shirt ideas you may have, and we'll vote on them at the next meeting.
Other
-The Extension Scholars program applications are due April 7th.
-Amanda received an alumni email from Karen Knutsen, who suggested that we include a column in the next alumni newsletter about what alumni are doing. The club also thought of possibly setting up a Yahoo account for alumni to log in and tell us about where they are now and what they're doing. If you have any suggestions on how we can keep tabs on our alumni, please email Amanda at akilby@udel.edu.
-Those who went to Regionals were so enthusiastic about their experience, that some of the club members have expressed interest in possibly hosting a high school-level judging and quiz bowl competition next year here at UD. This is a big idea that would require lots of help and commitment, but if we'd like to host something like this in the future, then it's important that we start thinking about it now. However, we should also keep in mind that it may be Delaware's turn to host Regionals in 2010! (The last time UD hosted Regionals was in '96.) In any case, if you'd be interested in helping out with something of this nature, please voice your opinions at future meetings, or email Amanda at akilby@udel.edu.
Alright. That's it for this week's minutes. Have a great weekend, everyone! And see you at next week's meeting on Wednesday, 3/8 at 5:30pm in Memorial 111.

Hey ANSC Club!
Here are the minutes from Wednesday's meeting:
Treasurer's Report
haven't gotten the books yet
New Officers/Committee Chairs
After a club vote, we inducted new members in to our open officer and committee chair positions. These were the results:
Treasurer: Jenna Scibilia
Historian: Stacy Green
Pre-Vet Chair: Michelle Lapera
Social Chair: Robert Gooden
Livestock Chair: Kaitlyn Lutz
Congratulations to all of our new officers/committee chairs!
Committee Reports
Service: AgrAbility speaker is tentative for our March 22nd meeting. Also, we are planning to help out on Steve Cook's farm on April 19th. In addition, if there is anyone interested in helping give a farm tour (with a dairy interest) to a wheel chair-bound woman, please email Danielle at dsmarsh@udel.edu.
Fundraising: We hope to have another Car Wash on May 6th. Carolyn's mom has donated a huge bag full of towels to the club, so this time we'll be better prepared to dry the cars. Thanks, Mrs. Schnek!
Social: The Social committee came up with some potential activities for the semester. These include bowling, ice-skating, Dave & Buster's, etc. If you have particular social activities that you'd like to see the club do, please email Robert at rcgood@udel.edu. Also, we started to discuss where we'd like our end-of-the-year Awards Banquet. Robert will look into a few places and give us options to vote on.
Livestock: The Livestock committee would like to try and get someone from the poultry industry (maybe Purdue?) to talk to the club. More information concerning a livestock speaker will be discussed at future meetings.
Pre-Vet: The Pre-Vet committee talked about getting an Animal behaviorist or a Wildlife specialist as a guest speaker for one of the meetings. If you know of someone in one of these professions, please contact Michelle at mlapera@udel.edu.
Ideas for the Semester
Dr. Griffiths had two great suggestions for the semester. First, she recommended that we try and get the Animal Science Club's very first president to come back and give us a talk. He works for the Delaware Humane Association, so perhaps he could give us ideas for a service activity. Second, Dr. Griffiths suggested that we open the floor during meetings to give members an opportunity to share good news. This "good news" can come in a variety of forms, such as who got into Vet School or Grad school, exciting internships and summer plans, job offers, etc. Meeting times are a great chance for our members to receive support and praise from other members. So, please don't hesitate to share your good news with the rest of us!
Website/Scrapbook
Jen met with other members to sort photos for the scrapbook. If anyone has any pictures from last semester's activities, please email them to Jen at jenp@udel.edu. Or, bring them to next meeting.
Ag Day
Although we've got over 2 months until Ag Day, it's important to start generating ideas and get the ball rolling. The overall theme for Ag Day is "Sowing the seeds of the future." We were thinking of playing off of this logo to come up with our own theme. Please start thinking of ideas, and we'll vote on a theme at a future meeting.
Regionals
We're going to Regionals next weekend! The plan is to take two University vans, leaving Friday, 2/24 at 12:30pm from the Russell lot, and returning on Sunday evening. The vans cost $43/day plus gas. The members voted and decided that the club will pay for the cost of the vans. And remember, if you're presenting a paper at Regionals, please make sure to have something ready by next Friday! Further questions should be directed to Carolyn at cschnek@udel.edu.
That's it for this week's minutes. Our next meeting is Wednesday, 2/22 at 5:30pm in Memorial 111. See you then!

Welcome back Animal Science Club!
Here are the minutes from our first meeting of the semester:
New Officers and Committee Chairs Needed
The Executive Board went through a few changes this past Winter Session. One of our Historians, Jodi Lasko, graduated over Winter, and our Treasurer, Matt Brodsky, decided to take some time off from school. In order to run smoothly, the club is looking for members to fill these vacancies and assume their duties ASAP. If you would like to run for Historian or Treasurer, please email me at jesshall@udel.edu before Wednesday. The club will take a vote at the next meeting. (Duties for Treasurer include: collecting dues and receipts, keeping accurate inventory, handle all expenses, submit annual treasurer's report, and serve as Fundraising Committee Chair. Duties for Historian include: help in compiling scrapbook, take pictures at events, and maintain club website.)
The club is also looking for a new Social Committee Chair and a new Pre-Vet Committee Chair. If you are interested in either position, please email before Wednesday, and we will vote on this next meeting.
*Reminder* If you are interested in running for next year's President, then you must have at least served as a committee chair. We encourage all of our members to consider our open positions as an excellent opportunity to get more involved with ANSC Club.
Scrapbook
We are still debating whether we want our scrapbook to follow the National Block and Bridle guidelines in order to be submitted, or if we want our scrapbook to be more of a personal-picture-album-type scrapbook. If we want to turn it in to BB, then it will require committee chairs to keep better documents of activities. Please take a look at the requirements (http://www.blockandbridle.org/AWARDS/scrapbk.htm) , and we will take a final vote on the matter at the next meeting.
Alumni Newsletter
Our Alumni Newsletter was sent out over Winter Break. Thanks, Jodi!
Semester Calendar
Please check out our revamped club website at http://copland.udel.edu/stu-org/ansci/index.html. It contains up-to-date club minutes and a calendar of events for the Spring Semester. If you would like to see the ANSC Club do certain events or activities this semester, please share your ideas by emailing Amanda at akilby@udel.edu. One of our most important events this semester is AG Day, and we'd like to dedicate the club meeting before AG Day entirely to preparation for the event. We would like to think of new crafts and possibly incorporate an educational theme. Although we will discuss more about AG Day at future meetings, please start brainstorming ideas. Also, start to think about awards you'd like to give out at our Awards Banquet at the end of the semester.
Regionals
We will be taking University vans and leaving for Amherst at 12:30pm on Friday, 2/24, and returning to Delaware on Sunday, 2/26. Remember that you will need at least one nice outfit for the awards dinner. Also, please be prepared if you will be presenting a scientific paper at the meeting. (Email Carolyn at cschnek@udel.edu for more information.)
There will be a livestock judging practice at Amanda's house on Friday, 2/17. We will be meeting in the Russell lot at 3:45pm to drive over. If you are going to Regionals, we ask that you make an effort to come to this practice, as it should be very beneficial.
That's it for last week's minutes. Please be reminded that there will be committee meetings this week. Also, our meeting has been moved to Wednesdays at 5:30pm in Memorial 111. Take note of this change, and we're sorry if this comes as an inconvenience to any of you.
See you Wednesday, 2/15 at 5:30pm in MEM 111.

Hey Animal Science Club!
First of all, we forgot to mention it at our last meeting, but if you will be here this Winter, please email me (jesshall@udel.edu) and let me know. Depending on the number of members who are still around, we might try to hold a few meetings/activities during Winter Session.
Secondly, if you're going to Regionals, make sure to drop off your check for $55 (made payable to Animal Science Club) in our mailbox in 104 TNS by Wednesday!
Third: Jen Puttress looked up the guidelines for submission of a scrapbook to the National Block and Bridle. Please take a look at the requirements (attached below) and email Jen (jenp@udel.edu) with your opinions. She would like to work on our scrapbook over Winter break, so she needs to know if she should make it in accordance to the BB guidelines, or if we want our scrapbook to be more of a personal-picture-album-type scrapbook. So please let Jen know which you prefer!
And lastly, those of you who signed up for our Longwood Gardens trip, don't forget that we will be leaving from the Russell parking lot at 5pm this Wed, Dec. 7th! Any last minute cancellations/sign-ups for Longwood Gardens should be directed to Carolyn at cschnek@udel.edu.
Thanks, guys! And good luck with your last week of classes!

Hey Animal Science Club!
Here are the minutes from Wednesday's meeting:
Treasurer's Report
$1284.29
Steve Cook's Recap
Our members who went to help out at Steve Cook's farm on Nov 20th said that they had a really good time. Steve gave some helpful livestock judging pointers and provided lunch for all who went. Members also got to interact with the animals and learn more about Steve's farm. Thanks to everyone who went--Steve always appreciates the club's help!
Food Drive
The food that we collected from our Nov. 16th meeting was dropped off at the Food Drive in Trabant. Unfortunately, the guy in charge of the event had gone home early due to the poor turnout, so our food didn't make it to the Thanksgiving collection. However, the food we collected will still be distributed to people in need sometime during the holiday season. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Food Drive!
Holiday Dinner
Dr. Griffiths is hosting a Holiday Dinner for the ANSC Club at her house on Sunday, Dec 4th, starting at 3:30pm. Her chili and homemade bread are simply amazing.. so I encourage everyone to come! Also, it's a fun time to socialize with the other members, and we will be having a Pollyanna-type gift exchange. If you're coming and would like to participate, please bring a wrapped gift ($5 limit). Make sure to RSVP to me (jesshall@udel.edu) by Friday, so that I can let Dr. Griffiths know how many of us to expect. Also, please email me if there are any vegetarian requests. We will be leaving from the Russell parking lot (behind Russell B) at 3pm on Sunday. Hope to see everyone then!
Directions to Dr. Griffiths': Take route 273 out past the Deer Park into Maryland for about 8 miles. Turn right on Fairview Rd. It is about the 5th house on the left – old house – with driveway after the first run of black horse fencing. The number is 169 Fairview RD and Dr. Griffith's phone number in case you get lost is 410-392-9751.
Longwood Gardens Trip
The club will be going to Longwood Gardens on Wednesday, Dec. 7th. We will be leaving from the Russell parking lot at 5pm. Abby Hird and Ed Moydell from the Longwood Gardens Graduate Program will meet us there and act as our guides for the evening. They have 20 free passes for members, so please bring at least $10 in case we don't have enough free passes for everyone going. If anyone has any specific interest or additional questions about the trip/our tour, please email Natalina Rager at nrager@udel.edu. Also, if you have not already signed up for the trip and would like to go, please email Carolyn at cschnek@udel.edu.
Regionals
If you would still like to attend the NESA 2006 (Regionals), you must email Amanda (akliby@udel.edu) asap! The club is trying to get the ANSC Department Chair to cover our advisor's costs at Regionals, and we're hoping to get the University to provide additional funds. Also, the club decided that we will cover the hotel costs. So, if you plan on going, please leave a check for $55 (made payable to The Animal Science Club) in our mailbox in 104 TNS by Dec 7th!! This $55 will cover the registration fee, but you will need additional pocket money to pitch in for gas, extra meals, etc.
Other Items of Concern
-Jodi is making progress with the Alumni Newsletter, and it will be going out soon.
-Jen is still looking into qualifications for submitting a scrapbook to the National Block and Bridle competition.
-Attention Committee Chairs: if you do not want to be a committee chair for next semester, please email Amanda (akilby@udel.edu) to let her know.
-We have some potential guest speakers already lined up for the Spring. These include the ANSC Club's first ever president, who now works in Development with the Delaware Humane Society, and a Military Vet ANSC club alumnus.
-Please start thinking of other activities you'd like us to do in the Spring and email your ideas to Amanda at akilby@udel.edu!
Thanks everyone for a great semester! This was the ANSC club's last business meeting of '05, but we hope to see you at the Holiday Dinner this Sunday and the Longwood Gardens trip on the 7th!

Hey Animal Science Club!
Amanda has just informed me that our AgrAbility speaker scheduled for tomorrow is sick and will not be able to make it. So, our meeting for tomorrow is cancelled, and we will not be having a meeting this week. However, if you are interested in going to Regionals, please email Amanda (akilby@udel.edu) by Monday, 11/28.
Have a great Thanksgiving, everyone!

Hey Animal Science Club!
Here are the minutes from Wednesday's meeting:
NESA 2006 (Regionals!)
This is taking place in Amherst, MA from Feb 24th to Feb 26th. So far, we have about 12 club members interested in going. We've also made reservations for 2 hotel rooms, but we may need to reserve more. The rooms are $70/night, and there is no limit to how many people we can sleep in a room. So, if some people are fine with sharing beds, sleeping on the floor, etc., then split costs for the hotel arrangement won't be so bad. We're estimating that the total cost per person (including registration fee and hotel) should be about $80-100. However, keep in mind that this does not include gas, extra spending money, one dinner, and one breakfast. We would like to have a list of definite people who will be attending Regionals by next week's meeting, Nov. 22nd. If you have any questions regarding Regionals, please email Carolyn at cschnek@udel.edu.
Steve Cook's Farm
We're going as a service activity to help out on Steve Cook's Farm tomorrow, Sunday, Nov 20th. Unfortunately, not many people have signed up, so if you don't have any plans for tomorrow morning... please consider joining us! We'll be leaving from the Russell parking lot (behind Russell B) at 8am, and we'll probably get back to UD at around 3pm. Any questions should be directed to Danielle at dsmarsh@udel.edu.
Other Items of Concern
-Jodi is still working on the Alumni Newsletters, and they should be sent out by next week.
-A trip to Longwood Gardens is scheduled for our last meeting on December 6th. We are still hoping to get someone from the Longwood Graduate Program to come along with us as a "tour guide."
Tonight we collected food to participate in the Food Drive and had Dr. Marshall as our guest speaker. Thank you, everyone, who came to the meeting, and I hope you all found Dr. Marshall's advice about vet school to be informative!
Special note: Our meeting for next week will be on Tuesday the 22nd at 6:15pm in Gore 103. Our meeting time and place has been changed so as to accommodate our AgrAbility Speaker. So, please come out on Tuesday for our meeting and learn more about AgrAbility!
Alright, that's it for the minutes. Hope to see you all on Tuesday!

Hello Animal Science Club!
Here are the minutes from Wednesday's meeting:
Treasurer's Report
account: $1474.38
Budget Requests
Alumni Newsletter: Jodi Lasko requested a budget allowance of $185 to cover costs for the ANSC Club's annual alumni Newsletter. The Newsletter helps keep our old members involved with the club by informing them about our semester's activities. Also, the Newsletter is a good way to advertise our Spring Plant Sale and put out requests for Guest Speakers. Jodi's budget was approved by the club, and anyone who is willing to help stuff envelopes should come 15 minutes early to the next meeting.
Scrapbook: Jen Puttress requested an $80 budget to cover costs for an updated ANSC Club scrapbook. However, there was some debate among members as to whether the format for our scrapbook should take on a more professional look, so that we can submit it to National's, or if the scrapbook should be less formal and serve more as an "in-house" events picture album. We decided that before approving the budget, we are going to see if we even qualify for the National's Scrapbook competition. (aka. Have we done the required activities that must be outlined in the scrapbook?) Also, the club discussed making copies of the "scrapbook" to CD, so that we can distribute it to club members at the end of the year. If you have any additional concerns or suggestions about the scrapbook, please email Jen at jenp@udel.edu.
Committee Reports
Fundraising: Matt talked to Dr. Emara, and things are in the works for our Spring Plant sale. Concerning profit from the Hayride, after splitting ticket sales with AZ, our share of the profit is $180. However, costs from the Hayride are still being calculated.
Pre-Vet: The Brandywine Zoo trip is this Sunday the 13th. Those who are going should meet in the Russell parking lot (behind Russell building B) at 9:30am. The cost is $4 per person. Any last minute cancellations should be directed to Amanda at aepisano@udel.edu.
Also, we will be having Dr. Marshall as a guest speaker during next week's meeting. Dr. Marshall is a UD professor and an experienced equine vet. He has lots of advice about Vet school, equine interest, and other animal science-related information. So, please make an extra effort to come to next week's meeting! We would like to give a warm welcome to Dr. Marshall and let him know how appreciative we are that he is taking time to speak to the club. Also, we invite you to bring friends who might not be in the club, but could benefit from Dr. Marshall's lecture.
Social: Dinner with the club at Damon's was a success, and everyone who went last week had lots of fun. A tentative date for our annual Holiday Dinner at Dr. Griffith's is planned for Sunday, December 4th. The Holiday Dinner is always an awesome time with great food and friends. Also, we usually do a gift exchange that involves randomly selecting a small gift that you have the opportunity of exchanging with other members. (There's always some harmless squabbling and other exciting amusements.) In addition, the Social committee will be in charge of providing light refreshments during our guest speaker's lecture next week.
Livestock: At the end meeting, Amanda Kilby gave us some basic instruction on livestock judging for those who are interested in attending Regionals. Also, there will be some more practice judging livestock when we go to Steve Cook's on Nov. 20th. In addition, Steve Cook has a bunch of other exciting stuff lined up for us when we go down to help him on his farm. This includes trimming hooves, helping with vaccines, and a BBQ for lunch. We will discuss more about going to Steve Cook's at next week's meeting.
Service: We will be having our AgrAbility speaker on Tuesday, November 22nd at 6:15pm in Gore. This will replace our regularly scheduled meeting for that Wednesday. Also, please bring nonperishable food items to the Agrability speaker lecture, so that we can participate in the Thanksgiving food drive. (Make sure to check expiration dates on your nonperishables... and please, no bottled water!)
Other Items of Concern
-New member certificates are on the way, and our new members should receive them by next semester. Thanks for being patient!
-NESA 2006, aka. Regionals: This is taking place in Amherst, MA from Feb 24th to Feb 26th. There is a registration fee of $55, and there will also be additional costs for transportation and hotel accommodations. We will have information on these additional costs by next meeting. Also, we want to have a list of definite people who will be attending Regionals by Nov. 22nd. So, please start putting some serious thought toward Regionals!
Alright. That's it from Wednesday's meeting. We hope to see you all at next week's meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 16th at 6:15pm in 037 Memorial for Dr. Marshall's guest speaker lecture! Have a great weekend, everyone, and see you then!

Hey Animal Science Club!
Here's the minutes from last week's meeting on 10/26:
Treasurer's Report
account: $1474.38
Budget Requests
Jen Puttress made a request to the club to put aside a budget that would cover costs associated with printing digital pictures for the Animal Science Club scrapbook. (It was suggested to keep copies of club pictures on CD in the ANSC Club cabinet.) Jodi Lasko also requested a budget allowance that will cover the costs associated with printing/mailing the club's annual alumni Newsletter. They will present itemized budgets at the next meeting in order for club approval. (Note: As per the ANSC Club's Constitution, expenditures greater than $50 need to be voted on.)
Webpage
All those who were present at the meeting got to be in our Club picture that will be on our webpage. Jodi wanted to remind the club that if you don't like a specific picture of you being on the ANSC Club webpage, please let Jodi know and she'll kindly remove it. Also, if you have any good snapshots from club events, please give them to one of our historians. (Jodi at jlasko@udel.edu or Jen at jenp@udel.edu.) You can check out our club's webpage at http://copland.udel.edu/stu-org/ansci/.
Haunted Hayride and Commitment Remarks
Thanks again everyone who helped out with the Hayride! We made $300 from ticket sales, but our net profit from the event is still being calculated. If anyone has any receipts concerning Hayride purchases, please get them to Matt.
We were very impressed with our members' overall commitment to the Haunted Hayride weekend. You guys came out and gave it your all, in spite of the lousy weather. Also, not enough can be said about the awesome turnout by our Freshmen members! Our new members' dedication and commitment to the club surpasses previous year's, and the entire club is benefiting from our new members. However, with that said, a few words concerning club commitment was necessary. Our members are the sole body of this club--and although we want to have fun, this requires a certain level of commitment. If you say that you will do something, or if you sign up for an event, the club expects you to follow through with your commitment. In fact, a member will receive negative points for an event if he/she fails to attend an event that he/she had signed up for. Dan Severson also remarked that he has "never gotten a job because of his college gpa." He said that it is all about working well with others and proving that you can stick to your commitments. It's important to get into good habits now, because future employers and review panels will definitely notice your previous club involvements. Also, professors who are writing your letters of recommendation can say little about the 4.0 student who was inactive outside of the classroom. We just ask our members to keep these things in mind concerning their activity and level of commitment to the Animal Science Club.
Committee Reports
Pre Vet: The club decided that we will be going to the Brandywine Zoo on November 13th, and tentatively meeting in the Russell parking lot at 9:30am. We decided on the Brandywine Zoo instead of the Philly Zoo, because the Philly Zoo's Big Cat exhibit won't come out until next Spring, and also the Brandywine Zoo is cheaper, closer, and has a special Discovery Tours event.
Fundraising: Matt is still in the process of contacting Dr. Emara about planting plants for our Plant Sale.
Social: Instead of our November 2nd meeting, we will be going out to Damon's Grill for dinner. A sign-up sheet was passed around for those interested in going. If you couldn't make the meeting, but would like to go to Damon's, please email Jenna at jscib@udel.edu. We will be leaving from the Russell parking lot at 6pm!
Service: Our AgrAbility speaker will talk to the club about AgrAbility on Tuesday, Nov 22nd at 6:15pm. This will take place instead of the club's regularly scheduled meeting for Wednesday, Nov 23rd. (Please take notice to this change!) Also, Danielle is still in the process of contacting Steve Cook about our service/livestock judging activity on his farm
Livestock: We ended the meeting with a friendly Regionals Quiz Bowl question game. Good job, everyone! (And congratulations to everyone who remembers more about livestock nutrition than the Seniors do--Carolyn excluded.)
Food Drive
There will be a Food Drive in Trabant on November 22nd. The ANSC Club would like to participate in this event, so we encourage our members to bring non-perishable foods (no bottled water, please) to our November 16th meeting. Reminders will be sent out when this event gets closer.
Regionals
Animal Science Regionals will be taking place in Amherst, MA from Feb 24th to Feb 26th. There is a registration fee of $55, and there will also be additional costs for transportation and hotel accommodations. Fees and forms are due by Jan 13th, so we ask our members to please start thinking about if you would like to participate in Regionals! Also, there is an Individual Research competition with a 1st place prize of $150. So, if you conduct undergraduate research, you may want to think about submitting an abstract and presenting your research at Regionals. (Last year, one of our graduating club members received 1st place in the research competition! I also received 3rd/4th place recognition.)
Alright, guys. That's it from last week's meeting. Remember that there will not be a club meeting this week (11/2), and instead, we are going to Damon's! Have a Happy Halloween, everyone!

Hey Animal Science Club!
Sorry that these are getting to you so late, but here are the minutes from last week's meeting:
Treasurer's Report
Account: $648.65
Ag Carnival T-shirts
There are a lot of Ag Carnival T-shirts left over, so if you are interested in buying one, please contact Amanda at akilby@udel.edu. They are navy blue with "Ag Carnival 2005" on the front left breast, and they cost $10 each.
Committee Reports
Pre Vet: Dr. Marshall will be our guest speaker at the November 16th meeting. Plans for a trip to either the Philadelphia Zoo or the Brandywine Zoo are still being looked into.
Livestock: We will start having quiz bowl questions (in preparation for Regionals) at this coming week's meeting. If you have access to previous quiz bowl questions, please email Lynsey at Lschoon@udel.edu.
Fundraising: Matt will be contacting Dr. Emara about planting plants for our Plant Sale.
Social: Instead of our November 2nd meeting, we will be going out to Damon's Grill for dinner. Damon's is a rib/steakhouse with an apparently very fun interactive game set-up that allows everyone in the restaurant to compete against each other about trivia questions. There will be a sign-up sheet passed around at this week's meeting for all who are interested in going. If you can't make the meeting, but would like to go to Damon's, please email Jenna at jscib@udel.edu. Also, Sara Daub asked Friendly's about any available Wednesdays this semester for Family Fun Night, but Friendly's is all booked for this semester. So, we will wait to coordinate a Family Fun Night until the Spring semester.
Service: We are waiting to hear back from a our AgrAbility speaker about what day she would like to talk to the club about AgrAbility. Also, Danielle will be contacting Steve Cook to coordinate a service activity and possible livestock judging practice at his farm.
Haunted Hayride
I want to personally thank everyone who came out this weekend and helped with our Haunted Hayride. I know that the awful weather conditions put a damper on the event, but I was really impressed by everyone's commitment and cooperation. You guys are awesome! And although we didn't give many wagon rides, those people who went on the Hayride said that they really enjoyed it. So, once again, thank you all for your dedication--and I hope that everyone had a good time!
And just as a reminder, if you put up any Hayride flyers around campus, please make sure to take them down. Thanks, guys!
See you all at this week's meeting on Wednesday, 10/26 at 6:15pm in 037 Memorial!

Hello Animal Science Club.
Here are the minutes from Wednesday's meeting:
Treasurer's Report
Account: $1,174.38
The Allocations Board gave us $100 for the Hayride, which will go toward the various expenses for the stations. Also, we are still working on getting New Member certificates from the Block and Bridle website. So for the new members, you will hopefully receive these before the end of the semester.
Hayride Committee Reports
Jason Peiffer, a Plant Science major from Alpha Zeta, came to the meeting and told us about the stations that AZ is working on. AZ will have a Salem Witch Trial station, a Dracula station in the hayloft of the Nutrition Barn, and one of their members will be dressed as a monk and greet everyone on the hayride as they first start off on the route.
As far as the ANSC Club stations, here's what we're doing:
1. There will be a mini-station by Allen Lab, where Carolyn will be dressed up as a little girl running around ripping up stuffed animals. We're also going to have a lot of bloody doll heads on spikes right by the road. This station is just meant to be really disturbing and creepy.
2. Next the Hayride will come to Jen Puttress's station near the woodlot. The driving force behind the scariness of this station is definitely the use of chainsaws. There will be people tied up to the fence screaming, and others will be running around with chainsaws (with the chain off, of course). If you have any chainsaws that Jen can borrow, please email her at jenp@udel.edu.
3. We're doing another mini-station by the corn field. This one is going to involve Robert's truck and scary people standing in front of his brights. (Trust me, when a person stands in front the car's headlights, it produces one eerie effect!)
4. Next stop is Amanda Pisano's station. This one will be right where the road turns left, heading down to the Beneficial Insects building. Amanda's station is based on the legend of the Goat Man. This legend involves a government experiment that went wrong, producing the evil Goat Man, who goes around chopping up pretty girls.
5. The next station is Allison Jervis's station, which will be right by the Beneficial Insects building. Her station involves a girl who turns into a scarecrow. There will be straw, body parts, and lots of general scariness.
6. The last ANSC club station is at the Nutrition Barn (opposite to AZ's Dracula station). This is Jay Tobias's station, which is based on The Ring. Sam Sack will be playing the part of the creepy well girl. This station was a hit two years ago when we did it... so let's hope for another success!
The budgets for the stations were due at the meeting. Carolyn and Jen will be shopping for the supplies, and they'll hand them out to the station leaders at next week's meeting. Also at the meeting, we signed up for kiosk shifts. In order to further publicize the Hayride, we have a kiosk in Trabant on 10/20 from 11am to 2pm. If you'd like to help out at the kiosk, please email me at jesshall@udel.edu. Lastly, we decided that we will have a run-through for the Hayride at 6pm on Friday, 10/20 (right before the actual Hayride starts running). Station leaders, your stations must be set-up and ready to go at 6pm on Friday. It is up to you to make sure all of the props and such are ready at your station before this time.
Committee Reports
Social: Kahunaville last week was lots of fun, and everyone really enjoyed the line dancing. We're planning a restaurant trip for Nov. 2nd. However, we haven't decided on a place to go yet. Some of the ideas mentioned were Lonestar, Hibachi, and TGI Friday's. If you have any other ideas, please email Jenna at jscib@udel.edu. Also, Sara Daub informed the club about Friendly's Family Fun Night. If a club registers ahead of time, they can get 10% of the profit that Friendly's makes between 5-9pm on a given Family Fun Night. This could be an excellent social/fundraising opportunity for ANSC Club, and we will look more into it.
Service: If you haven't paid up your money for stuff you bought at the AgrAbility auction, you must do so soon! We also talked about moving the the club meeting to another night of the week in order to better accommodate an AgrAbility speaker. (We'll get back to the club on when the meeting would be moved to.) Also, the club will be volunteering at Steve Cook's Farm. Steve Cook is a UD Alumnus, who is also a disabled Farmer. We've helped out at Steve Cook's Farm in the past, and the club members got to do some really fun stuff, like weighing piglets, helping halter break calves, and even chasing after goats. The tentative volunteer date is November 12th, but we will get back to you once things are more finalized.
Livestock: With Regionals coming up in February (it'll be in Amherst), the club members really need to start thinking about whether or not they want to go. In order to prepare ourselves for Regionals, we want to have a livestock judging practice some Saturday in November. We talked about maybe incorporating the livestock judging practice with the volunteering at Steve Cook's farm... but before we start judging other farm's animals, we'd like to have some training with livestock judging on the UD Farm. Also, to prepare ourselves for potential Quiz Bowl questions, we are going to start having practice questions at our meetings.
Pre-Vet: Dr. Marshall will be our guest speaker at the November 16th meeting. We also talked about getting Richard from Dairy to come in and talk to the club about careers other than in Veterinary Medicine. Also, the Pre-Vet committee decided that instead of going to the Plumpton Park Zoo, we'd like to go to the Philly or Brandywine Zoo. The tentative date for our Zoo visit is Saturday, November 5th.
Fundraising: The Fundraising committee will be contacting Dr. Emara to set up plans for our Plant Sale. The Club decided that we will be doing the Plant Sale again, because although we didn't do so well with it last year, we traditionally make a lot of money with it, and it has the potential to be a really good fundraiser. Dr. Emara donates the plants, and all the club has to do is help her pot the plants and then be responsible for selling them at Ag Day.
Alright. That's it from Wednesday's minutes. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, October 19th at 6:15 in 037 Memorial. Hope to see you all then!

Hello Animal Science Club! Here are the minutes from this week's meeting:
Dues
Today was the last day to pay dues! Hopefully everyone was able to get their $10 in to Matt.
Thank You Notes
In order to thank the companies for their generous donations to our auction, Thank You notecards were signed at the meeting. Cards will be going to Ag Industrial and Atlantic Tractor for their pedal tractor donations, and we're also thanking Bigg's Inc. for their donated auction item of the upright toy engine. These auction items brought in about $250, and the entire auction ended up making $714. This money will be donated to AgrAbility.
Ag Carnival Re-cap
We had a really great turn-out at Ag Carnival, and it was a lot of fun. Our pedal tractor event was a hit--although (as the boys painfully found out) an event much better suited for the ladies. Some winning highlights for the ANSC Club were Matt for placing 1st in the pie-eating contest, and Jen and Megan for coming in 1st place in the pumpkin chucking. The ANSC Club's team New Holland finished up in 4th place for the overall day's events! Awesome job, everyone! If anyone has suggestions for next year's Ag Carnival, please email Amanda at akilby@udel.edu.
Service Report
Sally, a representative from AgrAbility, would like to come and give a talk about her organization. However, she isn't available to come to our meetings on Wednesday. The club needs to decide if we would be willing to attend her guest talk on some other day of the week, and what day would be best for the club. Although the Animal Science Club has been raising money for AgrAbility for some time now, we've become slightly detached from the organization, so it would be very beneficial if Sally came in and explained to us more about AgrAbility. We will discuss this matter further at a future meeting.
Hayride
A contract has finally been drawn up between the Animal Science Club and Alpha Zeta. Some of the key aspects of the contract include:
-ANSC club and AZ will share responsibility of publicity, planning, filling out appropriate forms, and getting drivers.
-There will be at least six designated spots for haunted scenes along the route, with ANSC club responsible for at least 4 of the spots, and AZ responsible for at least 2.
-All profits from the hayride will be split as 60% to ANSC club and 40% to AZ
-ANSC club is required to provide at least 22 people each night, and AZ is required to provide at least 12 people. For every participant who does not show up on a given night, that club will receive a 1% deduction in profit.
Forms requesting funding from the Allocations board have been turned in, and our event is officially registered with Activities and Planning. As far as publicity is concerned, we have a kiosk in Trabant reserved for 10/20 from 11am-2pm. Flyers and signs are being designed by AZ, and we will hopefully be distributing them soon.
For those of you who are station leaders, you need to email Jen with your ideas and preliminary budgets ASAP. We're just two weeks away from the hayride, so we've really got to get ourselves in gear. Attached is the finalized station lists. If your name is not on the list, and you would still like to help out (we can use all the help that we can get!), please email Jen at jenp@udel.edu. Any other questions or concerns about the hayride can also be emailed to me at jesshall@udel.edu. NOTE: times for the Haunted Hayride have been slightly modified: The hayride will be on Friday, 10/21 from 7-11pm, and on Saturday, 10/22 from 6:30-11pm (with a kid-friendly ride from 6:30-7:30).
Kahunaville!
We ended the meeting by adjourning to Kahunaville for some country line dancing. Hope everyone had fun!
That's it for this week's meetings. Our next meeting is Wednesday, 10/12 at 6:15pm in 037 Memorial. Have a great Homecoming weekend, everyone... and try to stay dry. ;)
