Animal Science Club meeting 2/22 minutes (Thanks to Jen Puttress!)

Treasurer’s Report
Account: $1074.30

Committee Reports
Service
The AgrAbility speaker will be speaking to us on March 22, and would also like to extend an invitation for anyone else to come. Possible ways to advertise the visit are emailing club representatives, Talk of Townsend, and flyers around Townsend.

Fundraising
Dr. Emara says the plants are ready. We now need to make order forms and put them in mail boxes and around Townsend. Dan suggested we physically ask people to buy as well, especially Professors in the Ag school and on the farm. Any that are not sold through the orders will be sold at Ag Day.

Social
Next meeting will be a restaurant trip. The club decided to meet at California Tortilla at 55 E. Main Street. So far we have 18 people signed up to come, but if you would like to add your name to the list, please email Robert at rcgood@udel.edu by Tuesday, Feb. 28th. We’ll be meeting at California Tortilla at 5:30, and will hold a meeting while we eat.

Livestock and Pre-vet
Both committees are pursuing possible guest speakers.

Old Business

Regionals
15 people will be coming, so Carolyn added an extra room. There will be 5 people per room (3 rooms) plus Dan in his own room. Carolyn will also be bringing air mattresses, and extra blankets and pillows should be provided by the Howard Johnson.
*Please Pack Light*
The possibility of vans is bleak. Probable drivers will be Amanda K., Carolyn, Kaitlyn L., and maybe Erin.
Erin still needs a presentation!!! If anyone has a paper and powerpoint from ANSC 111, please email it to her at emcd@udel.edu.

Scrapbook/Website
Supplies are ready for the scrapbook.
Committee heads, please check the Committee page on the website for an activity sheet, and fill out one for any past activities, and fill one out for any future activities that fall under your committee.

Ag Day
T-Shirt Ideas
Are we going to use the Ag Day theme, or will we make a clever saying t-shirt? Please bring an idea and a sketch to the next meeting so we can vote!!!

Please go to the website for club updates!!!

Hey ANSC Club!

Here are the minutes from Wednesday's meeting:

Treasurer's Report
haven't gotten the books yet

New Officers/Committee Chairs
After a club vote, we inducted new members in to our open officer and committee chair positions. These were the results:

Treasurer: Jenna Scibilia
Historian: Stacy Green
Pre-Vet Chair: Michelle Lapera
Social Chair: Robert Gooden
Livestock Chair: Kaitlyn Lutz

Congratulations to all of our new officers/committee chairs!

Committee Reports
Service: AgrAbility speaker is tentative for our March 22nd meeting. Also, we are planning to help out on Steve Cook's farm on April 19th. In addition, if there is anyone interested in helping give a farm tour (with a dairy interest) to a wheel chair-bound woman, please email Danielle at dsmarsh@udel.edu.
Fundraising: We hope to have another Car Wash on May 6th. Carolyn's mom has donated a huge bag full of towels to the club, so this time we'll be better prepared to dry the cars. Thanks, Mrs. Schnek!
Social: The Social committee came up with some potential activities for the semester. These include bowling, ice-skating, Dave & Buster's, etc. If you have particular social activities that you'd like to see the club do, please email Robert at rcgood@udel.edu. Also, we started to discuss where we'd like our end-of-the-year Awards Banquet. Robert will look into a few places and give us options to vote on.
Livestock: The Livestock committee would like to try and get someone from the poultry industry (maybe Purdue?) to talk to the club. More information concerning a livestock speaker will be discussed at future meetings.
Pre-Vet: The Pre-Vet committee talked about getting an Animal behaviorist or a Wildlife specialist as a guest speaker for one of the meetings. If you know of someone in one of these professions, please contact Michelle at mlapera@udel.edu.

Ideas for the Semester
Dr. Griffiths had two great suggestions for the semester. First, she recommended that we try and get the Animal Science Club's very first president to come back and give us a talk. He works for the Delaware Humane Association, so perhaps he could give us ideas for a service activity. Second, Dr. Griffiths suggested that we open the floor during meetings to give members an opportunity to share good news. This "good news" can come in a variety of forms, such as who got into Vet School or Grad school, exciting internships and summer plans, job offers, etc. Meeting times are a great chance for our members to receive support and praise from other members. So, please don't hesitate to share your good news with the rest of us!

Website/Scrapbook
Jen met with other members to sort photos for the scrapbook. If anyone has any pictures from last semester's activities, please email them to Jen at jenp@udel.edu. Or, bring them to next meeting.

Ag Day
Although we've got over 2 months until Ag Day, it's important to start generating ideas and get the ball rolling. The overall theme for Ag Day is "Sowing the seeds of the future." We were thinking of playing off of this logo to come up with our own theme. Please start thinking of ideas, and we'll vote on a theme at a future meeting.

Regionals
We're going to Regionals next weekend! The plan is to take two University vans, leaving Friday, 2/24 at 12:30pm from the Russell lot, and returning on Sunday evening. The vans cost $43/day plus gas. The members voted and decided that the club will pay for the cost of the vans. And remember, if you're presenting a paper at Regionals, please make sure to have something ready by next Friday! Further questions should be directed to Carolyn at cschnek@udel.edu.

That's it for this week's minutes. Our next meeting is Wednesday, 2/22 at 5:30pm in Memorial 111. See you then!

Welcome back Animal Science Club!

Here are the minutes from our first meeting of the semester:

New Officers and Committee Chairs Needed
The Executive Board went through a few changes this past Winter Session. One of our Historians, Jodi Lasko, graduated over Winter, and our Treasurer, Matt Brodsky, decided to take some time off from school. In order to run smoothly, the club is looking for members to fill these vacancies and assume their duties ASAP. If you would like to run for Historian or Treasurer, please email me at jesshall@udel.edu before Wednesday. The club will take a vote at the next meeting. (Duties for Treasurer include: collecting dues and receipts, keeping accurate inventory, handle all expenses, submit annual treasurer's report, and serve as Fundraising Committee Chair. Duties for Historian include: help in compiling scrapbook, take pictures at events, and maintain club website.)
The club is also looking for a new Social Committee Chair and a new Pre-Vet Committee Chair. If you are interested in either position, please email before Wednesday, and we will vote on this next meeting.
*Reminder* If you are interested in running for next year's President, then you must have at least served as a committee chair. We encourage all of our members to consider our open positions as an excellent opportunity to get more involved with ANSC Club.

Scrapbook
We are still debating whether we want our scrapbook to follow the National Block and Bridle guidelines in order to be submitted, or if we want our scrapbook to be more of a personal-picture-album-type scrapbook. If we want to turn it in to BB, then it will require committee chairs to keep better documents of activities. Please take a look at the requirements (http://www.blockandbridle.org/AWARDS/scrapbk.htm) , and we will take a final vote on the matter at the next meeting.

Alumni Newsletter
Our Alumni Newsletter was sent out over Winter Break. Thanks, Jodi!

Semester Calendar
Please check out our revamped club website at http://copland.udel.edu/stu-org/ansci/index.html. It contains up-to-date club minutes and a calendar of events for the Spring Semester. If you would like to see the ANSC Club do certain events or activities this semester, please share your ideas by emailing Amanda at akilby@udel.edu. One of our most important events this semester is AG Day, and we'd like to dedicate the club meeting before AG Day entirely to preparation for the event. We would like to think of new crafts and possibly incorporate an educational theme. Although we will discuss more about AG Day at future meetings, please start brainstorming ideas. Also, start to think about awards you'd like to give out at our Awards Banquet at the end of the semester.

Regionals
We will be taking University vans and leaving for Amherst at 12:30pm on Friday, 2/24, and returning to Delaware on Sunday, 2/26. Remember that you will need at least one nice outfit for the awards dinner. Also, please be prepared if you will be presenting a scientific paper at the meeting. (Email Carolyn at cschnek@udel.edu for more information.)
There will be a livestock judging practice at Amanda's house on Friday, 2/17. We will be meeting in the Russell lot at 3:45pm to drive over. If you are going to Regionals, we ask that you make an effort to come to this practice, as it should be very beneficial.

That's it for last week's minutes. Please be reminded that there will be committee meetings this week. Also, our meeting has been moved to Wednesdays at 5:30pm in Memorial 111. Take note of this change, and we're sorry if this comes as an inconvenience to any of you.

See you Wednesday, 2/15 at 5:30pm in MEM 111.
