Animal Science Club Minutes 9/23/09

I. Community Day
Thanks to those of you who came and helped out. We raised $85.26 and we voted to round this up to a $100 donation to Faithful Friends. We also listened to some good ideas for next year. Great job, everyone!

II. Ag Carnival
It is on October 10th (Saturday) from 10 am-2 pm (at Webb farm). The last day to sign up for this event is Wednesday Oct. 7th. If you are interested in attending, but cannot make it to Kilby Cream or the meeting on the 7th of October, just shoot me an email (simonec@udel.edu) with your (1) name and (2) phone number. The Ag clubs will all get together for some friendly competition in “day in the life of a farmer”, 3 legged race, dizzy bat, and more. We will also host the Agribility Auction (organized by the Social Committee).

III. Kilby Cream
Next week, we are going to Kilby Cream Ice Cream Parlor in place of a regular meeting (Wednesday Sept. 30th). Those of you who signed up should receive an email before next Wednesday. We will meet in Lot 19 at 5:15 pm.

IV. Garden for the Community
This will count as a service event on behalf of MANRRS. They will meet in front of Townsend Hall at 9am to do some gardening. All proceeds will go to the Food Bank of DE. Dress appropriately (sneakers, clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty, gloves if you have them).

V. Long sleeve t-shirt Design
We voted for our t-shirt design and decided on the Animals doing Science (wearing goggles). We will hold off on voting on colors for now. *If anyone has any connections and can get us long-sleeve tees, please email Nicole Aizaga (naizaga@udel.edu) with the information.

VI. Announcements
o AgCC needs some representatives for ANSC club. Help ANSC Club win some points. AgCC is having a meeting this coming Monday (September 28th) at 7 pm in Townsend Hall Room 009. They will be discussing the plans for Ag Carnival.
o New Bolton trip is coming soon – time TBA
o Reminder: Amanda is still collecting dues ($15 for new members, $10 for returning).

Animal Science Club Minutes 9/16/09

I. Community Day
Community Day is this Sunday, the 20th. Thanks to those of you who signed up – you should receive an email before Sunday, letting you know that you signed up and for which shift(s).

II. Cowtown Rodeo
We will meet in Lot 19 at 5 pm this Saturday (19th). Bring $10 with you. If you signed up, you should receive an email.

III. Kilby Cream
September 30th instead of regular meeting – Sign ups will continue next week. We will get a tour of the dairy farm and bring some money if you want ice cream at their parlor! We will be meeting in lot 19 at 5:15 pm on the 30th.

IV. Ag Carnival
It is on October 10th (Saturday) from 10 am-2 pm (at Webb farm). Sign-ups will start next week (the 23rd). - September 22nd (Tuesday) at Klondike Kate’s at 6 pm

*AZ requires that you be in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the minimum GPA is 3.0.

Animal Science Club Minutes 9/9/09

I. Active Member Status
o Attend at least 75% of meetings
o Participate in 1 Fundraising Event and 1 Service Event per semester (given that there are at least 2 fundraising and 2 service events during a semester).
o 1 shift at Ag Day (in Spring)
o Membership dues: $15 for first time members; $10 for returning members
- Accept cash or a check, made out to “Animal Science Club”
o Serve on a committee

II. Community Day
Community Day is next Sunday, the 20th. Shifts are 1.5 hrs long (except for the last one) from 9:30am – 5:30pm. The first shift helpers will help set up and the last shift will help clean up. Our station will be near Brown Lab.
We will have face painting, fish toss, balloon animals
- Sign up will be at the next meeting (16th) as well

III. Cowtown Rodeo
We will meet in Lot 19 at 5 PM on September 19th for this ridiculously fun event. Sign-ups will continue next week and so far, we have 19 people signed up – it will be $10 if we get 25 people to sign up! (fyi) Lot 19 is located just north of Willard Hall, past the train tracks.

IV. Committee Chair Positions!
We explained the role of each of the committee chairs (livestock, social, service, pre-vet). The nominees will give a short speech at the next meeting and we will all vote for the committee chairs.

V. Announcements

Animal Science Club Minutes 5/6/09


I. Treasurer’s Report:

II. Vince recapped our trip to Steve Cook’s farm to help out. Many jobs were accomplished, including putting up a tarp, rounding up calves, dehorning calves, and banding goats.

III. Camping trip - Cape Henlopen
o This Saturday, May 16th until Sunday, May 17th.
o Leaving from Lot 19 at 11am sharp, so please arrive a bit earlier. The site is about 2 hours away. We will leave early Sunday morning to come home.
o If you have any tents, it would be greatly appreciated if you brought them because we don’t have many.
o Remember, you must bring your own sleeping gear.
o Food will be provided for free. If you would like any personal snacks or have eating restrictions, please bring your own food.

IV. Garden for Community
o Volunteers are needed to help begin planting veggie gardens at the UD farm. It is located across from the dairy.
o If you volunteer, you will get free pizza and ice cream! Good deal!
o Times are: Friday, May 15th from 10am–5pm. Saturday, May 16th from 9am–2pm. Helping out for even one hour would be great if you can spare it.

V. End of the Year Banquet
o Our banquet will be this coming Wednesday, May 20th.
o It is in the upstairs of Deer Park Tavern on Main Street.
o Please arrive by 5:30pm, and it will run no later than 7:30pm.
o Please dress nicely.

VI. Announcements
o The Advisor Appreciation Luncheon is on Thursday, May 21st (Reading Day) in the Townsend Commons from 11:30–1pm. It is a time to recognize great academic and club advisors, and there will be free food.
o AgCC Study Break is on Tuesday, May 26th in the Townsend Commons from 6–8pm. There will be free food and drinks with a movie playing. We are sponsoring it by donating up to $85 to fund the event.


VII. Elections were held and a new Executive Board was voted into office for the coming year. Congratulations to the new execs!

Out next gathering is Wednesday, May 20th at Deer Park for the banquet!

Animal Science Club Minutes 5/6/09


I. Treasurer’s Report:

II. Service Opportunities:
o Steve Cook’s farm help: Saturday, May 9th. We will help out on the farm and lunch will be served. Please meet in Lot 19 at 8:20am because we are leaving at 8:30am sharp. We will be back around 1:15pm. Please email me (kkoenig@udel.edu) if you would like to sign up.
o Renee Luther’s Therapeutic Riding Center: Week of May 11th. Tuesday 10-12pm, 1-3pm. Wednesday 10:30-1:30pm, 5-9pm. Thursday 5:30-8:30pm. All day Saturday. Please email me (kkoenig@udel.edu) if you would like to sign up for one of these shifts.

III. Relay for Life was postponed and rescheduled for Saturday, May 16th. Unfortunately, the people who were signed up for it originally are now unable to go. Good job raising money though, it is still going to a great cause –The American Cancer Society.

IV. Camping trip:
o Cape Henlopen on May 16th. We have a 1pm reservation on Saturday through 12pm on Sunday, May 17th.
o We are leaving Lot 19 at 11am sharp on Saturday.
o If you have tents to bring, please do so. If you have one to lend to the club but you are not going, please email Lorna (lorna@udel.edu) and let her know. You can also bring it to next week’s meeting too.
o Everyone is responsible for bringing their own sleeping gear (pillow, sleeping bag, blankets, etc).
o If there are any other camping things you want to bring such as flashlights, games, etc, please feel free to do so!
o Food will be supplied for free, but you can bring extra snacks if you’d like.

VII. Nominations:
o Executive Board positions available are: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and two Historians.
o Presidential nominees must have served on the Executive Board or as a Committee Chairperson for a year prior.
o If you would like to nominate yourself or another person before next meeting, please email me (kkoenig@udel.edu) with a full name and position. You can also voice additional nominations at the beginning of next week’s meeting.
o If you are a nominee, please be prepared to stand up and give a short speech (why you would be best for the position chosen) next week.

VIII. Announcements:
o Since we won the AgCC attendance prize, we gained $110. The club voted to give back as much as $85 to them to fund the Finals Ag Study Break.
o There is a 4-H fundraiser at Piece-a-Pizza on Monday, May 18th. You need to hand in a coupon with your order for it to count. Coupons will be available at next week’s meeting and on Facebook.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, May 13th (our last one this year!).
It will be at 5:30pm in 111 Memorial Hall.
Executive Board elections will take place.

Animal Science Club Minutes 4/29/09

I. We welcomed a guest speaker, Susan Garey, to talk with us about Extension work. If you have any questions for her or would like to contact her, her email is truehart@udel.edu and her phone number is (302) 730-4000.

II. Treasurer’s Report:
o account: $662.54
o o Ag Day earnings: $779.25! Great job everyone; this is the highest amount of donations we have recorded in Dawn’s records. We also won 2nd place overall for our awesome exhibit!

III. Ag Day suggestions:
A few suggestions were made at our meeting to make next year’s Ag Day even better. Some ideas brought up were: using 2 big tents rather than 1 big and 1 small, have more facepainting supplies and chairs, purchasing a portable microphone for demonstrations.

IV. Service opportunities:
o Volunteer with Renee Luther the week of May 11th. Times are Tuesday 10-12pm, 1-3pm. Wednesday 10:30-1:30pm, 5-8pm. Thursday 5:30-8:30pm. All day Saturday. We are looking for 5-10 people to go to each lesson and each group must have a driver.
o Steve Cook’s farm help on May 9th. Clean up loose hay and straw, refill barns, dehorn calves, put up shade cloth and sprinkler systems, and open up barn windows.

V. Relay for Life:
Relay is this Saturday, May 2nd. If you are signed up to participate, please keep a lookout for an email with information later in the week. If you are not signed up and want to come hang out for a while and eat snacks, feel free to join us! Donations are very welcome at the event.

VI. Banquet:
Our end of the year banquet is now being held at Deer Park Tavern on Main Street, rather than Kildare’s. The time is still 5:30pm on Wednesday, May 20th. Tonight was the last night to sign up. The menu includes a buffet with stuffed chicken, stuffed shells, and assorted salads. Also, since we made so much money on Ag Day, the banquet will be free for all active members! Hooray!

VII. Upcoming elections!
The executive board positions available are: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and 2 Historians. We will hold nominations next meeting (May 6th) and have elections on May 13th. If you would like to be nominated or nominate someone and will not be at next week’s meeting, please send your request in with someone else or email me (kkoenig@udel.edu) to let me know. Remember, to run for the position of President, you must have been an executive board member or committee chair person for a year prior.

VIII. Announcements:
o We won 1st place in AgCC’s participation contest! For a prize, we gained half of their Pie-in-the-Face earnings from Ag Day. Good job everyone!
o If you are interested in purchasing an Ag Day Nalgene bottle from Collegiate 4H, please email Lorna (lorna@udel.edu). They are $8 each.

o We will be facepainting, displaying animals, having sheep shearing and milking demonstrations, and making balloon animals from 3–4pm. If you are planning on standing in an animal pen, please review your facts using ANFS101 and 111 as your guide.

Animal Science Club Minutes 4/15/09

I. We welcomed a speaker from AgrAbility to come tell us a bit about what the program is and what they do.

II. Upcoming Activities:
o Saturday, April 18th: Laser Tag
 Leaving Lot 19 at 4pm.
 $12 for tag, 10 tokens, and a drink.
o Saturday, April 25th: Ag Day!
 Shifts are 8:30–10am, 10–12pm, 12–2pm, and 2–4:30pm.
 There is also an extra shift the Friday before Ag Day for set up from 2:30–4:30pm. This Friday shift does not count as a Saturday shift, but you will get a free t-shirt and pizza for helping out.
 An overflow signup sheet was started as well if shifts were filled.
 If you want to sign up for a shift, pleas email me (kkoenig@udel.edu) with your name, preferred shifts(s), and cell phone number.
o Saturday, May 2nd: Relay for Life
 Sign up on paper as well as online.

IV. After the meeting, Dan held Balloon Animal Training. We will be making these from 3–4pm at Ag Day. If you would like to help out with them and you are not signed up for that time slot, feel free to come by anyway!

Animal Science Club Minutes 4/8/09

I. We welcomed Renee Luther and two guests to speak with us about the therapeutic horseback riding center she runs, Freedom Hills.

II. Treasurer’s Report:

o Thursday, April 9th: UPenn vet panel at 5:30pm in 111 Memorial Hall. Please come with questions in mind to ask the students.
o Monday, April 13th: Friendly’s fundraiser from 5–9pm. It is on South College Ave on the left, heading south. If you need a ride, please email me (kkoenig@udel.edu) and we can work out a carpool system. On Wednesday, April 15th, PROUD is doing the same fundraiser (same place, same time).
o Saturday, April 18th: Laser Tag, leaving Lot 19 at 4pm. The last day to sign up is Wednesday, April 15th.
o Saturday, April 25th: Ag Day! Shift signups began at tonight’s meeting. The shifts are 8:30–10am, 10–12pm, 12–2pm, and 2–4:30pm. Animal Science Club Minutes 3/18/09

I. Treasurer’s Report:
o Inside account: $874.71

II. Baltimore Aquarium Recap
We went to the Baltimore Aquarium this past Saturday. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed walking around, seeing the Dolphin Show, and getting the “4-D Experience”. If anyone has parking receipts that need to be reimbursed, please hand them into Dawn as soon as possible. If you have pictures from this event, please email them to our historians, Ally (afetsko@udel.edu) or Michelle (mlapera@udel.edu). You can also put them on a CD or flash drive and bring them to a meeting.

III. Ag Day T-shirts
o They are $8 each.
o The money is due no later than next Wednesday, March 25th.
o If you have not signed up for one and still want to, you can either sign up next week and pay at the same time, or email me (kkoenig@udel.edu) with your name and shirt size to speed up the process.

IV. Next meeting details:
o Dr. Dallatore (an exotics veterinarian) and Dr. Kate (a canine physical therapist) from Windcrest Animal Hospital are coming to speak with us.

V. 3K “Green Mile” Run:
As a club, we eventually decided not to donate any of our money to the run until we get more information. Then, we will revote.

VI. Committee meetings were held. The following events are being planned:
o Pre-vet: Questions for next week’s meeting are being brainstormed, so we can be prepared to have a Q&A session after the talks.
o Service: Relay for Life on May 2nd.
o Livestock: Philly Zoo trip; trip to an alpaca farm; farm cleanup.
o Social: Laser Tag on April 18th; end of the year Banquet at Kildare’s.
o Fundraising: Friendly’s fundraiser; Main Street fundraiser.

VII. Sign Ups:
o Laser Tag: Saturday, April 18th. Meeting in Lot 19 at 4pm to carpool. It will be $12 for 40 minutes of laser tag, 10 tokens, and 1 soda. The sign up will be available next week, but if you would like to sign up over email, email me (kkoenig@udel.edu) with your name, cell phone number, and if you can drive/how many.
o Relay for Life: Saturday, May 2nd. You must sign up on paper and online. The website is www.relayforlife.org/udel, and search for “Animal Science Club”. Registration is $5 for now, and will move up to $10 after a certain date. We will give more information out on this event at later meetings. If you are interested and would like to get on the list, it will be available next week, or you can email me (kkoenig@udel.ed) with your name and cell phone number.

VII. Announcements:
o There is a job opening for an international project here at UD this summer as an RA/TA for foreign students. It would run roughly from June 28th–August 10th. Please email Dr. Griffiths (lesa@udel.edu) if you are interested or have any questions.

Animal Science Club Minutes 3/11/09

Tonight, we met at Grotto’s Pizza on Main Street to support AgCC’s fundraising efforts!

I. Ag Day T-shirts
o They will be $8 each. The money is due no later than March 25th.
o Sign ups started today, and will be available at next week’s meeting as well. If you would like to sign up for one over email, please email me (kkoenig@udel.edu) with your name and size.

II. Baltimore Aquarium Trip
o This Saturday, March 14th.
o We are meeting in Lot 19 to carpool, and leaving at 10am sharp. We plan to enter the aquarium at noon, watch the dolphin show at 1:30pm, and a movie at 2:15pm. Leaving time is estimated to be 3pm.
o It will be $16.95 per person. You must have your money (exact change preferred, aka $17) when you arrive at Lot 19.

Animal Science Club Minutes 3/4/09

I. Treasurer’s Report:
o Inside account: $1059.79

o If you have any receipts from NESA, please bring them to Dawn so you can be reimbursed.

II. NESA Recap
This past weekend was really fun. We stayed in 2 different hotels and woke up early every morning, so it was quite tiring as well. We competed in livestock judging (the mystery animals were Labrador Retrievers), Quiz Bowl, paper presentations, and original research. We had a great banquet, and some of us braved the dance (aka hoedown) afterwards.
We had a lot of winners this year, including:
o 9th Place in Quiz Bowl: Adam, Sarah, Seth, Kelly
o 4th Place in Quiz Bowl: Dan, Dawn, Kim, Julia, Amanda
o 2nd Place in original research: Lorna
o Livestock judging improved overall!

III. Ag Day!
o T-shirts: The design chosen will be a cow and chickens with the saying “Brown Chicken Brown Cow” on the back, with the circular crest on the front left. The colors will be a light blue shirt with brown writing and pictures. We will begin sign ups next week.
o Animals: Each committee will need to make a poster for each type of animal. This is be completed by the end of March.
o Balloon animal training: Dan will teach anyone interested how to make balloon animals after a regular meeting sometime in April.
o Shifts for Ag Day will be as follows: 8:30–10am, 10–12pm, 12–2pm, 2–4:30pm. There will also be a shift the Friday before for general setup. We will start sign ups on March 25th, so please try to have an idea what shift you can do by then.

IV. Committee Chair updates:
o Pre-Vet:
 Baltimore Aquarium trip on Saturday, March 14th. It will be $16.95 per person to see the aquarium, dolphin show, and behind the scenes. We are leaving Lot 19 at 10am, and enter the aquarium at 12:30pm. If you would like to sign up via email, please email Katie (kkoenig@udel.edu) with your name, cell phone number, and if you can drive/how many.
 Dr. Dallatore (exotics vet) and Kate Christian (animal physical therapist) will be speaking at our meeting on March 25th.
 UPenn vet panel on Thursday, April 9th from 5–7pm. It will probably be in Memorial Hall, but it is not yet determined.
o Livestock:
 Susan Garey will be speaking at our meeting on April 29th.
o Fundraising:
 Sally from AgrAbility will be speaking in Townsend on Wednesday, April 15th. We are going to listen instead of a normal meeting.

V. Announcements:
o If anyone has any pictures from NESA or last semester’s trip to Steve Cook’s farm, please email them to Michelle (mlapera@udel.edu) or Ally (afetsko@udel.edu) so they can be included in our club scrapbook.

Animal Science Club Minutes 2/25/09

I. Treasurer’s Report:

II. Baltimore Aquarium trip
o Saturday, March 14th
o Leaving from Lot 19 at 10am, no later
o If we get a group of 15+ people, the rate will be $11.95 per person, but with a dolphin show it will be $15.95 per person.

III. Ag Day Shirt design
o The design chosen will be a cow and chickens with the saying “Brown Chicken Brown Cow” on the back, with the circular crest on the front left.
o The colors will be a light blue shirt with brown writing and pictures.

IV. Announcements
o Dean of Students Forum: Friday, February 27th from 12–1pm in the Townsend Commons for a free lunch, speech, and Q&A session.
o MANRRS speaker: March 5th at 5pm in Perkins Williamson room. “If I knew then what I know now”.
o AgCC meeting: March 9th at 7pm in 049 Townsend. There are lots of openings on the AgCC executive board to run for!

V. We wrapped the meeting up with committee meetings, where future events were discussed within each committee.

Animal Science Club Minutes 2/18/09

I. Treasurer’s Report:

II. Ag Day information
o The theme this year is “Discover the Path to a Greener Tomorrow”.
o T-shirts: If you would like to draw/create a t-shirt idea, please have them done by next week’s meeting. You can either email them to Katie (kkoenig@udel.edu) or simply bring them in. We will be voting on the designs and colors then.
o Animals we will display: Dairy cow and calf, sheep, chickens, and chicks.
o Demonstrations will include: Sheep shearing, sheep hoof trimming, cow milking.
o Activities will include: Face painting and a balloon animal hour.

III. If you have not picked up your sweatshirt, Lorna has them. If the weather is nice, they will be available at next week’s meeting. If you would like to schedule a time and place to pick it up from her, please email her at lorna@udel.edu.

IV. Announcements:

Animal Science Club Minutes 2/11/09

I. Treasurer’s Report:

II. We went over the requirements to be an active member. To do so, within the spring semester you must:
-Attend at least 75% of the meetings
-Attend at least one fundraising activity
-Attend at least one service activity
-Work at least one shift at Ag Day

III. Important dates for the spring semester:
o February 16th – AgCC Spring Social in the Townsend Commons from 6–9pm. There will be pizza, coffee, hot chocolate, snacks, and a movie.
o February 27th – Dean of Students Forum from 12–1pm for the presentation and Q&A session.
o February 27th – Leave for NESA
o April 25th – Ag Day!
o May 20th – Last day of classes and the club banquet

IV. Committee meetings were held. The following are the ideas each committee had:
o Fundraising: Car wash, Main Street fundraiser, Friendly’s fundraiser
o Service: Relay for Life, MS Walk (May 3rd), help at Steve Cook’s farm, help at a therapeutic riding center
o Social: End of the year banquet, pot luck dinner or out to eat, support AgCC at Grotto’s Pizza (March 11th)
o Pre-vet: Guest speaker, UPenn vet school panel, Baltimore Aquarium trip
o Livestock: Guest speaker, trip to the UD milking parlor, zoo trip

V. Sweatshirts
If you have not yet picked up your sweatshirt, you can pick it up at the next meeting. If this does not work for you, email Lorna at lorna@udel.edu and schedule a meeting time.

VI. Other Announcements:
A 65lb pure black lab is in need of a home desperately due to moving owners. If you want more information on adopting “Valentino”, please email Jessie at jessilou@udel.edu.

Animal Science Club Minutes 12/3/08

I. Amazon Gift Wrap fundraiser
o The December 15th date is full, thanks for signing up!
o We still need people to sign up for December 17th from 2-6pm to wrap presents for Amazon.com. If you are interested, please email Dawn (dlenihan@udel.edu) and let her know.

II. Livestock Trip
o We are visiting Dr. Riddle’s equine farm and veterinary practice this Saturday, December 6th.
o We are meeting in Lot 19 to leave no later than 10:00am.

III. Holiday Dinner at Dr. Griffiths’s house
o We are having a holiday dinner this Sunday, December 7th at Dr. Griffiths’s house.
o Please meet in Lot 19 no later than 3:30pm to carpool.
o If you’d like to participate in the gift exchange, please bring a gift worth $5.

IV. Longwood Gardens
o We are going on our annual trip to Longwood Gardens next Wednesday, December 10th instead of a meeting.
o Please meet in Lot 19 no later than 5:30pm to carpool.

o The club will be paying members’ admissions. If you have not yet paid dues you will need to pay the $3 admission. Friends are welcome to join us, but they must pay their own fare as well.

VI. Announcements
o AgCC Study Break: Tuesday, December 16th from 7-9pm in the Townsend Commons.
o AZ Mitten Tree: Please donate new or gently used winter-wear (hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, etc) to the Mitten Tree in the Townsend Commons. All donations will be given to the Salvation Army. It will be in the Commons unril December 12th.
o AZ Grotto’s Fundraiser: Head over to Grotto’s on Wednesday, December 10th between 4-9pm and purchase some food or drink to support AZ’s fundraising effort for the Salvation Army. In order to donate some of your bill to AZ, you must present a coupon to your server (you can print one out online from their Facebook group or you can ask members for coupons if you plan on going).

VII. Finally, we welcomed Jeffery Bates, a guest speaker from St. Georges University of Veterinary Medicine (in Grenada). If you would like his contact information, please email Lorna (lorna@udel.edu).

Animal Science Club Minutes 11/12/08

I. We welcomed Robert Dimeo to speak with us about admissions at University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine.

II. If you ordered a sweatshirt and have not paid for it, please get the money in as soon as possible to Dawn. They are $15 and can be paid for in cash or a check to “Animal Science Club”.

III. Steve Cook’s Farm
o This Sunday, 11/16
o We are helping with pig vaccines, building projects, and other various things
o Please meet at Lot 19 no later than 8:30am to carpool

IV. At our meeting on December 3rd, we are welcoming a guest speaker from St. Georges University veterinary school in Grenada to speak with us.

V. Amazon Gift Wrap
o The signups for the Amazon.com gift wrap were available to sign.
o The dates are 12/15 and 12/17.

VI. Livestock Trip

Animal Science Club Minutes 11/5/08

I. Treasurer’s Report:
o $1384.29 (Not including the money from our Pumpkin Sale)

II. Sweatshirts
We began collecting money for our club sweatshirts this meeting. Remember, they are $15 each and you can pay with cash or a check to “Animal Science Club”. Please get your money in as soon as possible so we can order them.

III. Recaps:
o Milburn Orchards: We went apple picking, ate delicious apple cider doughnuts with apple cider, and shopped around the market. If you have any pictures please send them to Ally (afetsko@udel.edu) or Michelle (mlapera@udel.ed).
o Pumpkin Sale: Our sale was a huge success! We made $578 in total, great work everyone! Also, we will be passing around a thank you card at our next meeting for Scott Ramsey, who donated all of the pumpkins and other goods for free!
o Halloween Potluck: We ate good food, watched awesome movies, and had a great time at 54 New London, whether you were in costume or not. If you have any pictures please send them to Ally (afetsko@udel.edu) or Michelle (mlapera@udel.ed).

IV. Steve Cook’s farm
o We are going to Steve Cook’s farm to volunteer our time and hard work on Sunday, November 16th.
o We will be helping with pig vaccines, building projects, and other work. We might also be able to get some practice for livestock judging.
o The meeting time will be announced later, but will be in Lot 19 Sunday morning.
o Signups began circulating, and will be available at next week’s meeting. If you would like to sign up via email, please email me (kkoenig@udel.edu) with your name, cell #, and if you can drive (how many?).

V. Amazon Gift Wrap
o Dawn reserved two dates for us to help with the Amazon.com gift wrap as a fundraising opportunity. This year we will get $1 per present wrapped.
o The dates are Monday 12/15 and Wednesday 12/17. It will be from 2-6pm.

VI. Livestock Trip
o We will be visiting an equine veterinarian in Maryland, Dr. Riddle, to learn about his practice and techniques on Saturday, December 6th.
o We will probably leave Lot 19 around 11am, but a definite time will be announced later.
o Signups will be available next week.

VII. Longwood Gardens
o We are going on our annual trip to Longwood Gardens, to see the “magical” botanical gardens decorated for the holidays.
o We are going on the last day of classes, December 10th at 5:30pm instead of our normal meeting. Signups will be started on a later date, and we will carpool there.

VIII. NESA Registration
o NESA will be held on February 27-28th, 2009 at UConn.
o We participate in livestock judging, quizbowl, and presentations.
o We are starting interest signups next week because we need to register early since we won’t be together in the winter. Please check the dates and sign up if you can make it.

IX. Other Announcements:
o AgCC is holding a game night on Thursday, November 20th. Mark it off on your calendars and more info to come!

X. Committee meetings were held. Future ideas included the following:
o Service: helping with a therapeutic riding center in the spring
o Livestock: outdoorsy activities
o Pre-vet: New Bolton Center tour; doctors from Windcrest to come speak

Animal Science Club Minutes 10/15/08

I. Treasurer’s Report:

*Dues reminder: Please pay Dawn dues as soon as possible. They are $15 for new members and $10 for returning members. You can pay with cash or a check made out to “Animal Science Club”.
o Our fundraiser gift wrapping for Amazon.com will be scheduled for late November or early December.

II. Milburn Orchards
o We are going this Sunday, October 19th.
o Please meet in Lot 19 at 11:15am to carpool.
o It will be $8 per person to pick all the apples you want, but remember to bring some extra money if you would like to purchase other fun things and snacks.

III. Sweatshirts
o We are ordering Animal Science Club hoodies that are brown with sky blue writing. There will be our club name on the front surrounded by farm animals with various paw prints on the back.

o The order form is going to be submitted after next Wednesday’s meeting at California Tortilla, so that is your last chance to sign up for one.

IV. Steve Cook’s farm
o We are going as a club to Steve Cook’s farm on Sunday, November 16th.
o It will be during the morning until after lunch, which will be served to us.
o We will be helping him out with various farm work including pig vaccinations and a building project.

V. Halloween Potluck Dinner
o It will be held Wednesday, October 29th at 5:30pm instead of a regular meeting.
o It is hosted by Lorna and Jessie at their house, 54 New London Road.
o A signup was passed around this meeting for contributions of food, snacks, drinks, and other necessary items. It will be available next week as well.
o Don't forget, you are VERY highly encouraged to dress up!

VI. Pumpkin Sale!
o Our pumpkin sale will be on Monday, October 27th on the Trabant patio.

o We made posters this week to advertise at our sale.

VII. Announcements
o AgCC Midterm Study Break: October 21st at 7pm in the Townsend Commons. Take a break from studying to hang out with Ag students over some free food and drinks while watching a movie!
o Therapeutic Riding Center: Holly got information on a center not too far from here that accepts help with lessons. They need volunteers Wednesdays through Fridays, at least five people at a time. Also, they are having a horse show November 1st at which they could use some extra help. Please email Holly (hpowers@udel.edu) for more information or if you would like to sign up.

Our next meeting will be Wednesday, October 22nd.
